i grew the 905 in 07 and got a nice pumpkin 988lbs off it and i screwed up with the fruit as i had an overhead sprinkler to close to the fruit and rotted the stem , wanted to grow it again but ran out of room for plants but would like to have it back in the patch for 09 BUT i'm partial to the 707 myself and my buddy the bartman ! he's a good luck charm for me!!!!!

Curt, Ask Don Young about the 905, he calls it "BULLET PROOF", Don knows a little bit about growing them big. I think it's kinda crappy that "Sweet Emotion" AKA Dave Garrell would give this seed that label

I agree, Tom- Not only is Bart a great guy, he has a few 1k fruit to go with it. Don has the #2 pumpkin in the world, as well as MANY others over 1k. How many of those does Mr. Garrell have?

From what I can see the 905 is just another one of those hidden gems that has already grown a couple over a thousand pounds. The 846 Calai x 723 Bobier cross( which includes the 707 Toftness, 842 Eaton, 802 Dill, 419 Pukos to name a few ) has grown at least 36 pumpkins over 1000 and 23 over 900. Granted, the 842 Eaton can take most of the credit, but add the 898 to the 707,( 905 Toftness ) look out! This one should be planted more.
Phil Hunt's 994.5 is already on my short list, essentially the same cross as the 905. If it weren't I would be giving Bart a call.

Andy...don't forget the 1367Sundstrom off the 707Toftness.... And yes...the 842-02 has done well as a remake of the 707-01.

I think that it has great potential, obviously (I've said quite a bit about it previously and at the PGVG auction last year). I tried growing it and just had some bad luck with the plant getting stunted from the start--something weird. Maybe some drifting Roundup on a breezy morning or something. Interestingly Bart did better with the 905 than with his 707 and Randy Sundstrom has had better luck with the 707. (I hope I have that right. I've been a bit out of the loop this last season). I think that either of these could grow a 1400 pounder, but you won't believe me, of course because I haven't grown a 1400 pounder. Trust Don. He's right. Give it a try. In my opinion, we have entered the age where many, many seeds have just as good a shot at growing a world record as the famous ones do. If it has 723 or 845, 846 AND 898 it's a go in my opinion. Maybe just Bobier and Calai. Hard to know of course, and the real fun (what winter is for) is trying to take it to the next level. My whole line of thinking is about two years old. The next level will be 2007 and 2008 seeds. If I grow next year, I might try my 797 Isom UOW which is a 1041.5 McKie X 1689. Both sides have the "magic" combination I refer to above. Merry Christmas and have fun theorizing and planning for spring!
