can't believe i beat G to this one, but how about a green competition to go along with the orange? mike can run it under the same rules that get decided upon. i can offer up some "guarenteed" green seeds.
451* wolf 02 (535* wolf x self) 228* wolf 02 (771* stellpflug x 535* wolf)
any intrest out there? other green seeds?

Andy has an idea here. heck, green wasnt even mentioned at all!! maybe we should just do a green competition to get some more greenies grown out there!! The squash selection is much lower and would be easier to select...too many pumpkin choices
I'll volunteer (hope i spelled that right) my 494*(744* welty x 943.5* McCallum)that should throw all green as well.
like andy said, any interest out there?

Hey guys how about a seed that swings both ways? I got an email from Clarence Koch who offered his 940 to everyone!!! Its off the 455 right? Just a thought! Hey it would keep us from being divided, bring the orange and green into one!!!LOL

Swings both ways (orange/Green that is) sounds fine to me, we could see if geographic location and growerers experience/techniques plays any role in bringing out certian characteristics of the fruit!

I am with David.....squash competition.....any seed you want...some of us have already decided on our squash choices and many folks have limited space for an extra plant....this could help increase the number of squash ..........wayne

as far as i know, nobody at all grew my 522*.
a 50/50 would be cool with the 940 (or my 522*), but i know a lot of guys like to plan on one color or the other before planting. i had a 616* corkum and 815 andersen both go orange on me this year, and i was hoping for green from both.
as far as having an open squash competition for any seed, it's not up to me, but i would certainly support something that gets more attention for green.
although my seed predictions at this time of year are rarely accurate, i'm probably planting an 895.5* hester for my main squash, and one of my own in a lesser spot.

Andy I grew the 522 Wolf, hopeing for a squash. It was a beautiful plant with some leaves hitting 30 inches, but it developed a bad case of stump rot early on.lasted most of the season.I ended up with a very orange pumpkn of about 300 lbs.

Andy, you're right, it was the 771* stellpflug. He grew the 411 to see what color it would throw, but culled the plant because of space reasons.

Are we willing to judge this competition on pure squash. And not allow pumpkins that simply have a lot of green in them. If it is a pure true squash contest I am very interested. I have a growing area that I was going to rest but this gives me an excuse to use it .
