Is it possible to plant/bury leggy seedlings up to the cots without killing the plants?
Thanks in advance.

I have been doing this for the past few years with no ill effect. I am not convinced it is beneficial except for the fact that it stabilizes the seedling. But I have never had any rot or problem with this.

When mine get leggy Jake I plant them at a normal depth and then mound up around them right up to the cots.

Jake, By all means plant them to the cotts, Depending on the linage, especially, 935 lloyd strains, the leggy part of the seedling will send out extra roots, much like a tomato plant. My 522 (935 X 898) is an example. The 522 seedling I started in a 16 ounce cup, became leggy and I transplanted it into a 3 gallon pot, 5 days later when I planted it in the patch, and I removed some of the dirt to see if it was going to rot, I noticed at least 30 new shoots coming from the stem. This was in about 3 1/2 inches of leggy stem.

Thanks for the replies guys. I screwed up here. This was supposed to be posted on the watermelon site. Now, does this also apply to leggy watermelon plants?

Sorry Jake, but the only thing I know about watermelons is how to eat em and spit out the seeds.
