Hi everybody !

First of all I would like to thank all the people who sent seeds to me !!!
It's not that I haven't got good seeds, but I would like to have still 2 or 3 proven seeds ...
I mean some seeds where I allmost have a guarantee that they will grow a big one ...
Don't think that I'm greedy !!! But lots of the seeds I have aren't prooven yet ...
I don't have much to trade and I would like to pay for postage, and even something more.
People who allready sent me seeds, don't understand me wrong and please don't get angry !!!

Did I make myself clear ???

BYE, and thank you !

( please e-mail me privately @ stijnclaes007@hotmail.com )
Thanks !!!

Hi Supergrower, How many plants are you going to grow?, and have you contacted with Paul Boonen, the belgic man who got the European record with his 423 Kg (934 lbs) in Duisburg, 2001? Do you know anything about him?
I've found a web page about his pumpkin, http://users.belgacom.net/pompoenen/hoofditems/zaden.htm, but I don't understand belgic.

Actually this means that I'm searching for 845 Bobier ,712.2 Kuhn , 805 Pukos 2000 , 723 Bobier ,935 Lloyd , 805 Pukos , 1092 Burke , or something like that. ( not all these seeds, just a few proven !!! )
I know I'm asking much, and that these are the seeds everyone is looking for, but I want to pay for it and please, think about the little growers, who also want to grow a big one ! We need your help !

Anyway, thank you very much !
Bye.

How many plants that I am going to grow ?
Well, I'm going to start with the 20 best seeds and then pick the 12 or 11 best plants. And with these 11-12 I will try to grow a big one ...
Is that a good method ?

Bye, and thank you very much !

Supergrower, I can understand what you're saying, but it isn't just the seed. Many factors go into growing them big. Last year the nesbitt 845 was an unproven seed, and Quinn Warner grew a 1076 with it. Don't worry about not having on of the holy grail seeds. You probably have one right now and just don't know it. Good luck this year.

Supergrower,

Be here at 10PM EST tonight. 845Bobier'00 is going to be auctioned tonight in Chat. Probably the last one that will be available to any grower before the season gets going.

But do you really have 1/3 acre in good till & the time required to tend this many plants?

Most all of the seeds that I got since October are all quite capable of besting the 845 if given the right cultural care. Likewise, an 845 that recieves less than ideal growing conditions IS going to get smoked by me this year! (knock wood)

indeed, the (best) seeds were all unknown at one time,
and when you're gonna plant 20 and cull down, which is okay if you're planting your own seeds and have a ton of them to waste---well, how about listing out the seeds you DO have,
and perhaps go by the suggestions from a few growers that respond---- PROVEN, PROVEN, PROVEN!!! at what weight does a seed become PROVEN??? 1000, 1200, 1337? in my opinion,
a PROVEN seed is any seed that has grown a fruit bigger than my personal best of 728.5....so, a lotta proven seeds there! LOL also, from the majority of the seeds that are recommended, plant like 2 or three of each, narrow down the field a bit---if you grow one of each and have all that room, well, let's just say you're taking the bull (plant)
by the horns (vines)----you will NOT have the time to tend to 11 or 12 plants to any degree of care and management
to see the full potential of them----unless you're independently wealthy, retired, AND have a very understanding wife!!! aside from those last three, i know from experience. this year, FEWER plants,
MORE time spent on them! don't spread yourself too thin,
like i did! even 9 plants is (are) too many for ONE person.

Hey supergrower, I don't want to tell you what to do, but I would like to explain to you that people here don't sell seeds, you can look for in Howard Dill's web page. But I found out researching the data base of the a.g.g.c.com that even heavyhitters got poor results many times with the hot seeds and some times better ones with new unproven seeds and, of course, every hot seeds began its life like an unproven seed. Many 846 Calai and 723 Bobier has produced pumpkins under the 700 lbs even for the best growers, then, there is no way to know they are going to grow a monster, you only have more probabilities. And if you look for the charts next Christmas you will find, no doubt, some huge pumpkins grown on the seeds you have now from 2002.
I am not hypocrite and I have to say I prefer proven seeds as well, if I had a 846, I would plant it for sure, but you can think in this just for a while: you spent $375 for a 846 Calai in an auction, and you plant it with a 922 Holland 02 and 1236 Eaton 02 as neighbours, that were given to you for free. And in fall you get one 600 in the 846, and two 900 in the other two. How would you feel? I only think in spent money on seeds after I believe that I don't need to spend more money in improving my patch soil and irrigation system.
If you doubt about which ones to choose, I would recommend you send your collection list to some good growers and ask for advice.
Have luck and grow'em big.
Don

OK.
So the advice is : grow only a few plants and be happy with the seeds I have ?
Yeah, that's actually true !
And I can't complain about my seeds I allready have !
Thank you very much !!!
BYE.

Supergrower, I think you are like a lot of us trying to improve your chances of a record fruit by getting the best seeds. Don Q. hit it on the head the soil and moisture delivery system come first or how can you get any seed to reach it's full potential?

Hey!
We're all after the same thing. Big orange bragging rights.
And theres still a shot tonight at the "best of the best" that were apparently too rich for all of us last night. LOL

I got my 1096 Glasier'02's in the mail from the Pumpkin Nook Auction today. 845x940 3 seeds for $50.00. These will have to be my "super seeds" for 2003 cuz from here on, the seed auctions are a spectator sport for me. And what I have probably has just as much chance as anything else we can get our paws on.
