Does anyone know what Giant Pumpkin seeds would be suitable for Georgia Growers?

The seeds I am using that I obtained from the "seeds" page of this site are all from north of the Mason Dixon line. I hope they transplant better than the typical New Jersey immigrant.

Well if you are trying to grow the really big ones then the only seeds are the Atlantic Giant's. But they are not suited for the hot climate that we have down here, so something has to be done to cool them off. There is an article on misting in the HOW TO... section of this site. I am going to get a misting system this year for about $130.
Hope this helps Justin

I already have my misting system set up. I used the article in the How To section for direction and I spent about $125 ($50 of which was the timer). We will see how it helps when we get into July and August.

I guess I had better start looking into a misting system. Trying to make a pumpkin plant drink plenty of ice cold tea doesn't get it!!!

Hey Svrichb,
Are you already having problems with the heat? I am, my pumpkin started wilting at ten o'clock this morning!!! Did you see the shading system in Orange Thumb's submissions into the photo gallery? You might want to look in on that. I just don't think this misting stuff will work when the temps. reach 100... with out the heat index added in. Now I think misting would work if you had about 50 start times.:)
I might try a combo of shading and misting... If the cost of shading is not too high.

Justin, So far the heat has not been a factor> My main vine is over 3 ft and no wilting as of yet. A little hail or meteorites have punched a few holes in the leaves but no other damage. I have buried the entire base to promote more root growth because I believe the better the root system the better for cooling later in the summer.
Good luck,
Pappy

Welcome fellow southern grower . I live in upstate S.C.and I seem to be having luck with my pumpkins planted in partial shade. This is my first year though but so far the plants look good , no noticable wilt . I have had cuke beetles and stink bugs and sevin dust seems to take care of them. Jeff

I'm a fellow southern grower too. It's okay to have AGs down here in the sun as long as you set up a good misting system.
