YEAH RIGHT....but I made everybody look.

Beware shady strangers in chat. No one is going to trade or sell these seeds. If someone is connected enough to have these seeds, they won't have any problem providing the seed's chain of custody. If you're afraid of embarrassing a seed trader, just imagine how you'll feel after you've been scammed.

I know all of these growers personally. If someone offers you a HOT SEED in trade, I guarantee the seeds
authenticity can be verified or not. But you must seek help. Fear of blowing a "SCOOP DEAL" is no justification for getting scammed.

Please don't trade with strangers.

I agree with Tremor, nothing's going to hurt more than finding out your hot AG was a field pumpkin.

I'll trade you 4 1207's, 2 904's and I'll even toss in my Ocean front home in Arizona for a single 1385.

All of these particular growers (& then some) are on my cell phone speed dial. When in doubt, if you don't know the grower yourself, email me & we'll either authenticate the source or debunk it for good. 90% of the seeds listed can be traced to their last known custodian.

A good resource option is your local GPC representative or weighoff. None of us want to become seed merchants. But we also don't want the brotherhood to become tarnished. Here in the pumpkin brotherhood all we really have is trust. If we permit the dark side to spoil that trust there is nothing much left.

Even if you authenticate, there are still easy ways to be cheated. If it ain't free, don't buy it.

Good post Tremor!
If I ever have a question about a seed trade I always ask the grower who grew that seed . I have even went as far as scanning the seed and emailing it to the grower and have even sent the seed by mail to the grower for verification just to make sure it was the real deal.
Don't be ashamed of or hurting the growers feelings that traded you the seed, they should understand, and if its the real deal they shouldn't care anyway.

Even with auctions seeds, I will find out where the seed came from, and who had it last. Remember, just because its a auction seed doesnt always mean its the real deal, not because someone is trying to send a fake seed, but maybe they got that fake seed from someone else and truly believes it was the real deal when really it might not be.
Try to find out about all your seeds, no one wants to grow a seed that they might have a question in the back of their mind about if its the real deal or not. If you have that question in the back of your mind then you shouldn't be growing that seed anyway.

Brooks is right.

Newman seems to have forgotten who Howard Dill was. Mr. Dill was a seed merchant of the highest order but the seeds he sold were not all of serious grower quality. If we refuse to buy & grow purchased seeds, this hobby will die.

Our weighoff is 100% financed by auction seed sales. If growers all boycotted our auction, we'd be one year away from bankrupt. The weighoff will cease to exist.

I had an 842 Eaton I obtained from a "trader" before I knew better. His trading reputation alone would make a grower suspect. Al Eaton writes on all his seeds. While I never showed it to him, he never called it a fake either. The writing looked legit, the seed had the correct shape but it was smaller than the others. That aside, I never even considered selling it in our auction. Had I made the source known by name, it would have raised suspicion.

We always name a seed's donor in our auction.

So this year I grew it myself.

Having grown the 842 twice before, I do believe now that it was authentic.

I can only speak for the CT GS&PGA & GPC auctions, but we bend over backwards to only offer grower donated seeds. If a seed is donated by someone else (very rare), the original grower must first verify the authenticity AND approve the donation.

Folks are always surprised that I don't open seed envelopes when they get here but I prefer to keep original hand signed seed envelopes original.

I would also like to add that I think 99% of the time your not going to get a grower donate a fake seed to a auction, what would the point be for them?
Growers who donates great seeds to auctions is there to help a club out. And now a days mostly all the seeds I have seen at auction are donated by the original grower himself anyway.
All Im saying is be on the look out cause ya never know sometimes. Lets all work together and try to keep the fakes out of our future generation of seeds.

I got a bad experience this year with a seed got from a auction ($250), when the seed was arrived to me, Ihave mailed to the grower for to know the autenticity of the seed, after some e mail with a picture attached ecc,, happened that the seed was a fake one, the grower is a great person because I have sent the fake seed to him and him sent one original to me, very kind person!!!
I can't say same about the person of the auction that sent me the one fake!!
I want not say that the auctions are not serius, this problen is happene only one time to me, but is happened!
May be the auction organizzators are not totally responsible, but will be a good point to check a seed with the grower before to do the auction
this is my personally thought
Sorry for english
Sergio
