Hello, I am new to Big Pumpkins.com and I have been trying to grow giant pumpkins for the last 3 years although I admit not having record pumkins as a source for seeds is a severe limitation. I have a lot to learn about seedlings, pollination, and fertilization as well so I joined this community in hopes of communicating and enjoying the process.

Get a 6x9 bubble pack (insulated packaging that protects the seeds from the U.S.P.S) and put your Name and address in the ship to portion and place 3 or 4 stamps on it (i Usually use 4 just to be sure there is enough postage though 3 would usually suffice) - then place Bubble package into another larger envelope with the ship to portion filled out with the person's address that you are trying to get seeds from and take that to the post office and mail to them.

That way they get your package - open it up - take your inner bubble out and put seeds in it and place it back in the mail for the return trip to you (this saves them from having to pay to send the seeds to you - (it can get expensive sending hundreds of packages)and also ensures they are sent to the correct address (since you put your address on it !!)- making it as easy as possible on them to send you the seeds you want to grow.

Oops pressed reply too soon and forgot to mention - it is also usually a good idea to include a letter with the package that tells a bit about yourself and your plans for the seeds so they can get to know a bit about who they are sending their seeds to. And then when you grow them it is always nice to let the person you got the seed from know how things went and perhaps send a few pics or links to some pics so they can see how the seeds did for you.

CLD,

I guess you don't know about the annual California Grower's Meeting in Elk Grove. Please e-mail me your telephone number at veader@sonic.net and I will fill you in.

Thanks everyone for the posts. I knew it was a bubble pack mailer but like growing giant pumpkins the devil is in the details, takes the guess work out of the process. Will be shipping out mailers soon.

How big did the mother pumpkin get?
