Does anybody know of any specific seeds which have been known to produce vigorous vines and rapid growth of pumpkins which end up very large? If so, would anybody have seeds to trade or ship? Thanks

You could check www.aggc.com find out what seed genetics are continuiously producing big pumpkins, click on a pumpkin then click on Hierarchy tree (and then "Is Tree Misaligned" if both sides of the tree are'nt there) you can then see which seed is growing the big ones,1385Jutras grew the worlds record. SCGA St' Croix Gowers Association gives away great seeds with its membership, there will also be growers here this fall/winter offering free seeds from this years pumpkins.

Oh well thank you. That is useful! The only problem I would have is finding desired seeds. For example, the 1385 jutras seed.

Even the most renowned growers have trouble finding seeds like the 1385 Jutras. While some seeds are certainly more desirable than others, you can still easily find some excellent genetics capable of producing huge fruit. Ask around this fall or shop on http://howarddill.com/, which I've used satisfactorily several times. There are likely many seeds out there with just as much potential as the current "hot seeds" that have just one problem: they haven't been planted heavily by experienced growers.

There are actually thousands of seeds out there with the genetic capability of growing huge pumpkins in the right hands.

Yeah, I'm trying to find them! Lots of research and confusion... I'll have to talk to some local growers.

The local growers in your area are most likely members of the PNWGPG and/or the PGVG (many of whom have themselves produced proven seeds).

Grower, If you get bored you could go to the 2009 GPC results page on the homepage of Bigpumpkins.com and look at the top 200 pumpkins on that list. Look at what grew what and what was pollinated into them. Write down a list of what the most proven seeds are based on that and although you will most likely not be able to get a 1385 Jutras there are plenty of others on there that will still grow a monster. Hope this helps and good luck!

Just wondering where I would be able to find some seeds for my children to grow. They love to garden. We went to a Fall Harvest on Saturday and they were in just awe as we saw some amazing gigantic pumpkins.

barbara-start a new post, tell them everything you posted on this post in the new post. I guarantee someone will offer you seeds. People might not come to this post and see your posting because they presume it is about proven seeds, like the subject says it is.
