I'd certainly go with that 1197 Matesa.

Often for crossing, a selfed seed can be even better than the original cross.

Its complicated, but using generations of homogenous breeding, by selfing, or sibbing, or crossing with close relatives etc..., before outcrossing to new genes can be a good idea.

If you check out Don Langevin's book, how to grow giant pumpkin vol. III it explains it a little bit.
