I got some 245 Bartoli watermelon seed yesterday directly for his hand, this is the seed that produced two WR in two mounth in july was 307 lbs yesterday the new one in fasta della zucca di sale GPC weight off new one is 326.7 lbs

Will be interesting to see if the seed actually grows anything decent without the grafting of rootstock -- just to see what the genetics of the seed actually are like on its own.

Unfortunately I think this grafting stuff is just going to make tracking genetics that much harder when wanting to improve the results through genetics since it is going to be harder to determine what is the results of the genetics and what is due to the rootstock used.

grafting is for disease resistance the only thing it will do is keep your plant healthy longer, in my opinion the genetics are what provided most of the growth. From my experience my graft is the best looking plant, but the smallest melon(wal-mart seed) for some reason I still think genes play a big role, if grafting is so great everyone would do it. I say if you want to graft go ahead if you don't want seeds from grafts get em from a grower you trust!

Not trying to be rude, but weren't the plants grafted because of diesease in his soil? Has anyone grown it without the resistant graft to make sure its not seed born? I do agree with Josh I think its more likely its a great seed and a great grower, but the grafting may be worth a try anyway.

Josh -- I agree it is just another choice in growing but I also think it would be interesting to see both a grafted and non grafted plant from these genetics being grown by the same grower under the same conditions (hopefully in a disease free soil to remove that variable) to get a better idea of what the process brings to the table !

That melon is a HOG I'm sure the grafted plant played a big role in 2 WRs in one season.

I have a graft and non-graft from the same melon, my graft melon is 1/3 the size of the non-graft, but the plant is bigger! It's got me buffaloed I thought it would be the other way around. My grafted lope crapped out when the melon was 34 lbs at 20 DAP smoking my non-graft! My experience is I won't graft next year, if it works for growers who cares what Guiness Record Book says GPC is good enough for me! Oh and GWG!

Thanks for the info. -- I think either way there are a lot of variables that have to come together to get record sizes - so if a grower is able to get it to grow that big they must be putting in the work and doing something right.
