Hi all! Purchased some seeds last year online and ended up with seeds that did not fit advertisement! Promised 500+. Definitely not seeds for the big ones like promised! Quite disappointed to see my pumpkins stop growing around 200lbs, toward the end of this season! Put in a lot of effort, babysitting, cultivation and care. I am excited to try again next year and to see all I learned in action with good seeds! Just got my winter ground cover crop out now to get patch ready for next year! Looking for seeds from honest and reputable providers/growers! Only looking to grow two plants next year to invest all of my time! 4 plants this summer was quite a challenge! 1000lbs+ would be great! 1500lbs+ even better! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Lots of land, lots of sun, lots of water and lots of time!

It usally takes a few tries to get a 1000 lb pumpkin. If you get 1 on your very 1st year you would be extremly lucky. Give it a few years to learn.

You could spend hundreds on "Fertilizers" and a few hundred more on seeds- the truth is that it takes a season or 2 to get your soil where it needs to be. Now is the time to send out your soil tests so you know what your patch will need for next season. The soil test results will come back with recommendations but giant pumpkins usually require more than what is suggested. There are a few people on this site that can tell you EXACTLY what to do with your soil. Tom at www.extremepumpkinstore.com really knows his stuff and will review your soil tests and make suggestions for FREE. You need to get your soil correct first- then you can start growing some giants.

Matt, Make sure you attend the California growers meeting in Elk Grove next spring. Usualy held around late Feb. or early March. Very good place to learn about growing giants and possibly meet a mentor. Plus you will be able to choose and take home a ton of seeds from growers all over the world. Ron Root

Fast Fred & VT Pumpkin: I was going to send out my soil samples to A&L labs, but is it better to wait until spring or should I do it now? I wasn't sure when I was supposed to do amendments. I planned on testing in February and making my amendments then to get things ready for spring planting...

Matt, Do soil test now.You need to add your organic matter and do any major corrections this fall. Then early spring test before adding final admendments.

Matt, instead of buying seeds, you can great seeds on this site. Hang in there.

Deputy, the season was bad all over Iowa. I was shut out myself, and we had only half the normal entries at Anamosa weighoff. At least with little growth to use up nutrients and little rain to leach them out, most of your fertilizer should still be in the soil. Get a soil test to see for sure.

Matt, theyll be tons of great crosses available once the 2012 pumpkins are opened and seeds are dried.1st of december is a good time to write the generous growers on bp.com.Ebay and garden stores are a 2nd class source for good seeds. If you dont know whos the daddy on the seed theyre not worth your time.
