Couldn't anyone just take a seed from a 100# pumpkin and say it was from a 1000 pound pumpkin. How can you be sure what your getting?

You have to trust the person you trade seeds with, or do a little background check.

i try and get the seed from the grower and trade with some one who you know..

I think that pumpkin growers are not doing things like this. It would mess up all the genetics!
