I am very interested in getting some genetically superior seeds so I can try for the "big one". I must tell you though I am tired of getting seeds that throw off fruit that are mostly flat and gray.
Thank you, Salem, WI

The "big one" might grow flat and gray.
How can one tell if seed is genetically superior?

What seed have you grown to what weights in the past? Wisconsin is solidly in the Orange Zone. Prepaired to grow a big one your soil should do it. What do you call a big one?

Hey Dean, The genetically superior ones dont get holes in them :) Plus the pretty ones always weigh light. Look at the 543Engel2003 18.85% Heavy. They dont get much uglier. Then look at my 619.5. Beautiful, orange, symmetric and 6% light. Shannon

I was starting to think that all my seeds might be genetically inferior....or maybe its just me.
Hey Shannon that was'nt a hole, It was the pumpkins mouth that opened up. She was trying to tell me she was still hungry.

I am looking for seed that has the potential to produce fruit over 1,000 lbs. and will have good orange color. The ones that I have produced over the last several years have been from a seed company that supposingly obtains seeds from weigh off site winners. However, all my pumpkins have been very green/gray in color. Most people that see my pumpkin always say the same thing, "they look like big squash". Yes, I know the difference between soft handles and hard handles - square handles and round handles. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me. This is a great site.

OK...I got your E but can not reply. Your ISP thinks I am a demon on the loose. Send me your address and I will give you what you are looking for except one thing. The orange will be soft orange and the bottom will be flat as I believe all huge pumpkins are. I will not ship until the middle of November.
If you self or cross these two seeds into each other you will be following the practice of your countryman Dill as he approached the first 500lb. pumpkin. I can not guarentee against any event but these two: 710 DG 03 UOW 1097.8 TC X 1061.5 TC and 410 DG 03, 1061.5 TC X 1097.8 TC. are full of the stuff it takes to get a very nice heavy pumpkin.
You may review the growing of these two in my diary here on BP.com. If you like what you see Send me three bucks for the handle and your address. Sorry I can not Email you.

Shoot...this gets confusing. Send me your address. I will trust you and ship the seeds. I prefer not to post a private address on a public board. Your call.

I suggest joining the AGGC, doing research there to find EXACTLY what you're looking for. Then, writing or emailing polite requests to the corresponding growers.
