Does anyone have information on what the world record for the biggest "orange Jack O' Lantern type pumpkin (i.e. Howden, Conneticut Field types)? Is there ever any contests for these type of pumpkins. I had a Howden that weighed over 100 lbs. this year. I remember my father growing a Connecticut Field over 30 years ago that weighed 70 lbs and we really thought it was a giant. Anyway, would be interested in there are growers that are trying to get these type of pumpkins to grow real big.

Bob, thanks for the information. I think it would be fun to get some growers interested in growing these true type pumpkins. After all, the image of the big pumpkin for most people is what they see on the Libby's can and what they buy for Jack o' lanterns. I just have not heard of any competition for these type of pumpkins.

Russ, I'll would like to see Pepo (hard stem pumpkins), or connecticut field as a class also. That's why I took mine to my GPC wiegh off with my giant pumpkin, squash and long gourd.

105 lb official for OVGPG record, I have seen in person a 108 pounder, and heard rummor of 118 pounds in a seed testing plot once. For me, I have had 84, 84, and 83.5 as my biggest, would really like to top 100, that has been a goal for several years now. The largest c. pepo is the marrow current record is at 135 lb last I knew.
Anyone who has had a feild pumpkin over 100 lb, I am intereted in seeds, true feild pumpkins, not the cheese pumpkins.

A few years ago I helped weigh in a field pumpkin at the Bethlehem fair in Connecticut that topped the scales at 107lbs. Pretty amazing considering the largest atlantic giant displayed at the fair that year was only around 200lbs.

Bob and Others,
Thanks for the replies. I took my pumpkin that weighed close to 101 lbs. to a local school to let them show it off for their Halloween fest. It was sitting in a warm room and I think it may have gotten nicked up and consequently it developed a soft spot. The janitor(s) not knowing any better tossed it. I only learned about this about a week ago. So I am really depressed that I was not able to save any seed. I would really like to get some seed from anyone that grew an extra large Howden type this year.
Thanks,
Russ
