Not really. I just think that the flatter the pumpkin the less it has to contend with the force of gravity. This theoreticaly means it could grow faster and with less effort from the plant. The 954 is the flatest pumpkin I know about.

well it's just the offspring may not be flat. don't know what the only offspring of it on the aggc looked like. the 1039 vader looked pretty flat at the royal this year. i don't know how much resistance to pumpkin growth comes from gravity. Whittier's 1301 looked like it was reaching for the stars. A surer bet to get a flat fruit would be to look at which pumpkins have grown flat ones in the past. the 818 hebb grew the 954. but since we're talking about open and multiple pollinators for a few generations, you don't know what you'll get. Kinda like my seeds. All i'm saying is don't expect a pancake from the 954:)
