Looking for a 904 Stelts 06 -- Realize germination may be a long shot but haven't been in this long enough to realize that remakes never work. So - need a 904 to go with my 993 V/M to try a 1059 remake. Nothing to loss but growing space and time.

Okay -feeling stupid now. I haven't been growing that long and didn't realize what a seed the 904 was in its day. I am sure they were heavily requested and planted with the kins they were producing. Guess there will not be a 1059 remake.

Remakes never work?

Remakes may work. Just imagine a seed stock A (out of maybe 300 seeds) and seed stock B (another 300 seeds), and there are maybe combinations of 20 seeds out of A and 20 seeds out of group B which would give a really awesome cross.

The big problem with the remake strategy is, people want to re-make an already found awesome cross, and the probability of getting another set of the genetically superior seeds out of seeds stock A and B is pretty low. The odds of having average (or poor) seeds are much higher.

There must be a great number of crosses which already gave seed stocks of average quality, and nobody aims at making a remake thereof, but that´s where some potential might be, because the superior genetics out of seed stocks A and B perhaps haven´t been crossed yet.

Hence, one cannot say that remakes never work, one should say that there´s awfully high risk of being disappointed.

Just try to see the 1625.5 Gantner 13 as some kind of a remake of a 1770.5 Lieber 12. See what I mean? Remakes may work.

If you cross the 993vm x with 904 s, will it turn out looken
like the 1059 ??

Certainly not. The fruit itself may look like the 1059, as long as the genetics in the seed of the 993 planted are very similar and environmental conditions are similar (the pollinator shouldn´t play a significant role).

If you are talking about the seeds of this 993x904 cross, they might reveal similar features, but again it all depends how similar (genetically) the 993 and 904 are to the 993 and 904 crossed in the original 1059.

A picture of the 904 is available on the AGGC website. I don't think you need any special credentials to view it. Go to... http://www.aggc.org/aggc_main.asp and scroll down to the 904.

The 993 I grew wasn't that orange compared to the 993 that
Vincent Mcgil grew ,but the 904 stelts I grew looks close
to Vintcent Mcgils.
Its worth a try to grow next year ; its in my 2012 Diary
