Ya know, the 953 was beautiful and all but look at it's pollinator, 885 Hampton. I don't think a (935 Lloyd x 859 Mombert) is gonna add to the color potential much. With a pretty pumpkin, you need to look at what pollinated it..that's what's important. In my humble opinion it's a bad cross.

In my humble opinion, no one cross is bad until it is tested. Many hot seeds come from non very famous crosses, like the 844, the 783 or the 898 (of course is odd to find a seed without a good seed in its progenie)

Sorry, I should have been more specific.....I think it's a poor cross if you're looking for the 953 progeny to have the color mom did. In that respect, it's unlikely that's gonna happen.

I know well that the genetic is very important, but I think that sometimes it is necessary to tempt experiences, so today one arrives at weights of more than 1400 Lbs, it is has force of selection; I want to try to cross several fruits very orange-coloured. I know well that it is not a guarantee for that final colour, but one is on that it has at least embarrassment of the colour on a generation and so one day it will return, but which tempts anything my anything. I would be delighted to have your experience. Thank you, jean louis

If you want Really Orange - go with an 801 Stelts - or at least something with it in it's background.
Just my opinion.

jean,
We have found that most brilliant orange fruit are light to the chart, however there have been exceptions like our 810 Dill, we have also noticed that some fruit that should have been "green" turned very orange and thick too. Search for a 611* Hester, it grew the very orange 961 Daletas, and the 961 has grown several very orange, very large offspring (#1300)....

869.5 Calai's are brilliant orange and most the time weigh heavy. Did I happen to mention 869.5's are my favorite seed;). 673 Kilberts are also a bright red/orange.

There is a Calai 869.5 in the PGPGA Auction that is to be held Sunday at 730 in BP chat, starting at 7:30 and it is paired with a Larsen 1156. Right now the bid is 25 bucks, cheap! Hope to see anyone wanting deep orange there to bid on it!

or the Mombert 940 '00 seems to do a good job of squeezing-out orange ones as well....yes, we have veered off-course a little, but these are alternative suggestions that may yield the same results. good luck in our quest!

The 869 Calai is an awesome seed. Mine was bright yellow with pink touches, and 8% heavy. Alex.
