I keep reading about your seeds this plant from this seed is it really better to get seeds from seed exchange or is it ok to get the seeds from a catalog. We are new at this and are growing our pumpkins from a catalog seed and so far it looks good . Haven't got any pumpkins yet though got a late start. Vines are starting to run and the flower buds are just becomming visable. I have really gotten some good advice from this sight and hope to really grow a big one next year . Just want to get the best seed I can get. Thanks.

If you buy a package of Dill's Atlantic Giant seeds, they could come from a field of pumpkins, you could get seeds from a 100# or a 700#, you just don't know. If you really want to grow "the big one" look at the cross pollinations that produced the most consistently grown big pumpkins. Try to obtain these seeds, and with good soil and good luck, you will do well!

This is my second year of growing A giant Pumpkin from Catalog brought seeds.I payed 10 dollars for three seed. 1999 & 2000. The first year they sent information on what pumpkin the seeds came from. The second year they sent no information on them. I am satisfied with the seeds that they sent me and this years Pumpkins are doing great at this time.
But when you get serious about growing a Giant Pumpkin it is nice to know what the seeds Family Tree is. This you will only get from serious growers that will give you some of there seeds. Most seed from growers are given away and not sold.
Good luck this year and in the future.

just by signing on to this list, you took the first step toward getting some great seeds. talk to people, make pumpkin friends. by october there will invariably be some biggies grown by people on this site. most are more then happy to give away a few seeds. scott
