The 705 was a beautiful pumpkin, but went down early due to a split. There weren't too many seeds saved from that pumpkin. I bought a packet for $5, 2 winters ago at the O.V.G.P.G. advanced seminar, and when I opened it this spring, it had 2 seeds in it! The one I planted didn't germinate. I'm not even sure if Stelts himself has any of these left.Very rare indeed!

kilr, you said you had 2, what did you do with the other? I am looking for one, have been for a while. I should have asked you, you know him, you would know these things. Do you have his address e-mail or snail-mail? I really want to talk to him about lots of stuff besides seeds, but seeds is one of the big things. Good luck, Tom

Tom, If you want a stelts seed that would probably have good genetics as well as color & shape you might want to talk to Dave about his 565 . Some folks go for the big ones , but hear me out. It is a 825.5 Shymanski X 801.5 Stelts. If I was a betting man I would say it would be easy to get one of these....Paul

How many seeds do AG's produce on average? 200-600 seeds or so per pumpkin?

my 30 pounder had 728 seeds. The 565 sounds like a good cross. If I'm able to contact him I'll ask. It sounds like it will be big and orange. Thanks for the info, Tom

Jack LaRue's 1010# last year(grown on the 801 Stelts), produced only about 80 viable seeds. The Checkon's 1131# world record in 1999 had none, so you just never know!

There weren't any seeds at all in the 1131 Checkon? That's what pumpkins are for... to profuce seeds. hmmmm

If you cut off the blossom end of a pumpkin would that cause the seeds not to mature inside?

Was it soil, fertilizer, Ironite, genetics, or MAYBE the pumpkin never had the chance to grow to it's full potential! You tell me!I don't think cutting off the blossom end after pollination would affect anything. Tom, sorry to hear about your head, it wasn't much, but it's all you had!

Tommy Boy,
I am known by "killer" by hundreds of people in the work place, as well as many friends and fellow growers. I got the nickname for a reason. What would you know about ovaries, wives, or kids? I refuse to have a battle of wits with an "unarmed" person! kilr

Wait till you turn 21 and discover beer. That will help bring that IQ down to a manageable level.
I'm no rocket scientist but I have enough sense to know that kilr has probably forgotten more about growing AG's than I'll ever know. What's more important is that you'll never find a person more willing to help us newbies get going in this great sport. I look forward to the day that I can thank him in person. Kilr, the drinks will be on me.

I might see him at the seminar. Wierd, I've seen this story before, kilr, teacher tells the student everything he knows and later on they become rivals, it kind of looks like this might happen here. GO REDSKINS! That was kind of randem. Tom
