I am understanding more as I read, but I see many people talk about A Number with a Name refering to seed type. My question is, Is there a place or site to find characteristics on these seeds? I would like to have a few that are in the 300-500 lb range. But I do not know what to expect, as far as color, shape, and other characteristics. I planted 1 oz of seed from a catalog and was able to grow 38 pumpkins 50lbs or more with the largest being 184 lbs. I had many different shapes and sold some for Halloween. I actually liked the pear shaped AG for carving the pumpkins, just because it is different. Are the shapes of the pumpkins caused by genetics or the pollination(or lack of)?

I didn't know what the number meant either at first. Number is the weight of the pumpkin the seed came from. The name is the name of the grower. Some people also put a date 00 or for this yr. 01.

for size and shape the best, by far, is one along the 567 Mombert strain, but they're kind of hard to get. Maybe Kirk could clone them like Madman cloned the 746 and keep it around, it's the best there is.
