the 100+ i wouldn't be so worried about as much as the dry part. if you can secure a great deal of water and put some thought and work into shading and misting, you can grow a Great Pumpkin! have a look at Boily's diary as well as
that of Carlos Perez (from Spain, and otherwise known as Don Quijote)?sp.? (his diary)----i believe they deal with the
Hot Monsters more than most of us......and they grow 950.4 and 1036-pounders, respectively---once those items are conquered, you could grow ANY AG seed and have great success--------------and good luck-------oh, by the weigh, i would be happy to send you a nice group of seeds if
you contact me after like November 15th of '04---NY seeds!

Doug,

I am growing in Phoenix and it is hot. Check out my diary for all the details. Bottom line is this: flowers will not develop in intense heat. I truly believe there is nothing genetically at the level of the blossom you can do about this.

I have proven that the plant itself will survive and even grow well, but its ability to propagate will be reduced by aborts or even flowers dying before they bloom.

Pumpkinpal2 is correct with Boily and Carlos as I have talked to the both of them. One thing to remember with their situation (and probably yours) is that they had intermittent heat waves. If they saw every day over 100 F for the whole growing season, I think it would be a different outcome. I have researched and done things to improve heat resistance so it can be done.

Make sure and keep up with me on some sources for those resistant seeds because I am also looking for them.

My 494* squash grew a 726 lb squash in Australia...survived 100 degree heat most of the summer. If interested, email me.
