The "New" P&P seed catalog I just received lists two 893.5 Pukos 2001 seeds for $10.
I just called P&P, and the lady said that the seeds are unavailable while they "count how many they have, and see what condition they are in". Do you suppose that means that since the 893.5 threw an 1100 pound fruit, the seeds will come back in the next catalog at $35 a piece?

Do you really want to grow it? Look at the shape of the "1100", ugly shaped wheel. Nothing I would look for no matter if it was "big". No beauty contest here but we still look for pumpkins, don´t we?

Positioning, it's all about positioning, this guy never cut his tap roots, thats why it grew like that.

but even if he cut his tap roots, the wheel would be standing upright but still be a white wheel...

I grew the 893.5 Pukos last year. I had lots of aborts, so I ended up with only two small pumpkins. If you look at my 2003 diary, you will see that the pumpkins looked fine. No grotesque anything.
