Alright, I have 2 1097 beachy seeds, I might trade one, might trade both, might keep both, but I'll have a little fun. My goal was for an 845 bobier, still no takers. Anyone is welcome to give me their best offer with some tops seeds. Something that grows decent in warmer weather and doesn't have a history of mutating plants:) Give me a deal I like, I might bite hehehe, but the 1097 won't come cheap, it's too good of a seed. Email me if interested. Jimmy

I'm wondering about that myself as well, Tom! I can't understand why people are that much after the 1097.5s! I have several 1097.5's but I would NEVER consider it for next year! I have heard of so many split 1097.5's this year that I am almost sure that half of them if not more split! And there are plenty of other seeds....

The 1097.5 throws big, the reasoning why it's popular despite some splits. You can't scoff at (5) 1000+ in 2 years of growing.

the seeds are still available, I'm looking for 735, 805 pukos seeds as my wish list. As for the 1097, sure it had some splits, but how many seeds have put out 1400 lbers? Not to mention usually going heavy and having many go over 1100 in 2 years out. Jimmy

I hear ya' Jimmy. The 712 Kuhn has always had a rep as a splitter too, but it's still a world class seed.

What i think might help is if you didnt write things in your offer like "it wont come cheap, its too good of a seed". Keep it simple, it works much better. I dont think that 1097's are THAT sought after just yet, only time will tell, but, for now it has a decent showing for sure.

1097 - time will tell and experienced growers will tell how to breed out a splitting tendency just using the best possible cross on this one in the future. Just a guess.

I believe Joel Holland's 1100lbs pumpkin that he brought to the Puyallup Fair as an exh. fruit was also off the 1097.5 and split a few days before the weighoff.
I am also aware of at least one other 1000 pounder off the 1097.5 that also split but can't remember the grower's name right now.
That's 5 split ones out of 8 1000 pounders!

I just wanted to say I had no intention of saying something wrong or offending anyone with saying the seed wouldn't come cheap. I am sorry if it did. I also didn't mean to start a huge debate on the 1097, I was just trying to trade my seeds. Debating the seed is fine, but I honestly think that putting the seed down on someone's trade post isn't the best thing to do. Anyway, best wishes to all and vince, I think I'll take the trade for your zuchinni seeds or whatever they are!!!:) heheh Jimmy

I must agree with you, Jimmy!
Writing all that in a post where someone wants to trade that seed was not too fair and not the best thing to do. Sorry for that! It just started and I contributed to it without thinking about the consequences...
Sorry,
Martin

Big fruits split, the bigger than are the more often small defects are accentuated. There have been plenty of splits off of the 723, 845, 846 Calai and 705 Stelts. I have personally had two stem splits off the 845, one off the 705 Stelts and and a blossom end split on another 705. I guess the rest i might have I should just give away.

I think the 1097 would be something to discuss if it was the only seed this year that split over a 1000 lbs but it wasn't. I might be wrong and it will not be the last time I was. If I remember right there were a LOT of splits this year on bigger pumpkins of different seeds. A lot more than usual I would think. Thomas

A great deal of splits Thomas, might be due to the extreme temp. swings we had this year......

A friend of mine grew the 1097 last year and produced a personal best of 832.5. But this year when he grew the 832.5 all of them split. So the spliting genetics even passes down to its offspring.

1097... throws lots of 1000+ pounders, and some of them split. Big deal. If it grows biggies consistently, then it is valuable. Would you rather grow a 900 pounder, or an 1100 pounder that split 3 days before the weigh-off? Personally, I would rather be in the 1100 club.

So have you still got the 1097's, If you do email me and let's see if we can make a deal. I don't have a 845, or 842 to trade though. But some other good seeds. And I'll take a 1000 pound split over a healthy 600 pounder anyday. Eddy
