I am saddened to announce that Cory Campbell (the Big One) has broken a deal with me that cost me a couple of hundred dollars. I am ashamed to say I tried to help this young man out. Please be cautious when exchanging seeds with Cory. His track record has been extremely suspect at auctions too.

Name and reputation of a grower can be permanently damaged pretty fast so this a very sensitive issue here if posted on a public message board. Ben and Owen are right, clear up the facts and maybe it´s a good idea to discuss the details privately (email) before it goes out to the public.

We get one face guys. It is wise to keep these things private. The damage is almost certainly unreverseable.
A tip to seed traders: In person, face to face or not at all.

Keep the soap operas private. The cynicism you are spreading about seed trading is going to spoil this whole thing for other people who don't care about squabbles between babies. If you don't know the person you're trading proven or premier seeds with then you take your chances. If you know the guy and he rips you off then don't deal with him again. If a guy makes an honest mistake then just get over it and move on.

First I don't recall your name, which is ???
Second I firmly believe a rating system on seed trades etc. would help other growers know what type of a person they are dealing with. (Maybe Ken & John) can put a board up for seed trade comments.
I also have limited trading with known people.
Third watch the comments about squabbles between baby's, Russ Landry is a good friend and respected grower here, If he has a problem with a grower over a seed trade I sure would like to know about it in case down the road I do end up trading with the guy because he's been around for a while.
Cory, what's with the name change???

Giant Veggie man: 1.) The name is Matt Porter 2.) Congratulations for doing the obvious thing. 3.) The comment wasn't directed at you...if your friend Russ has a problem with what I commented I'm sure he doen't need you to speak for him. And regardless, I stand by my comments. The point I was making is that you should not WASH YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY IN PUBLIC. Keep private disputes private...because if it turns out there was just an honest mistake made then somebody's good name can get damaged inadvertantly.

And by the way...I didn't mean "squabbles between babies" literally. I was over-exaggerating to make a point. I'm sure both people involved are cool people...but hell, before everyone gets paranoid about trading seeds at least people should try to work things out in private. Maybe some of you "experienced" growers need to remember that many newer growers follow your examples. (not me of course because I don't listen to anyone) but what I'm saying is: Don't send the wrong message.

oh, by the way, cory, i am now very sorry to have said what i said---it may have sounded like i agreed with the first post because it concerned you. i should have said what everyone else did about keeping it private----BUT------concerning trades gone sour we really SHOULD be able to know about about them. traders beware? that stinks, but yes, anyone's reputation can be permanently scarred if cut open just once. okay, now, everybody trust MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! lol----eric

Yo Momma...why don't you just sit back and get a feel for how things work on this board, before you go riling folks up? Happens every year, some newer guy comes along with all the answers and pisses people off. Then is gone the next year when they realize 1) growing pumpkins is alot of hard work and 2) they really don't know what they're talking about many times when it comes to AG's and the individual growers You're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but believe me, if you'd spend a year or so on this site, you'll see how things work and undertstand the underlying currents in many statements. Many of us have been here for years, know each other via Internet and by meeting in person, and we know the unstated subtlities in many of each others messages.

Kyle: I agree. When I grow a 1000 lb'r, then I'll start riling things up, but until then, it's sit back, take it all in and learn a thing or two. There's too mnay respected and proven growers here on bp.com (that can help out us new growers) to start pissing people off in your first month.

Southern: For your information...I have been growing vegetables for over 20 years. Yes, I am a relative newcomer to growing AG's but I fully understand the general principles and work involved in successfull growing. And believe me Southern, I will still be around growing next year (GOD willing). So maybe YOU shouldn't make assumptions about people before you have your facts straight. Another thing, don't put words in my mouth...I never said I had all the answers. But as for me: at least I SAY WHAT I MEAN AND MEAN WHAT I SAY....none of this BS about "unstated subtleties" and "underlying currents." As I've written before; you may not always like what I write...but at least there's some integrity in it.

And as for you LAWMAN, since you've already made it clear in an earlier posting that you just plain don't like or have any respect for me (and that's your right) it comes as no surprise to see you chime in here just to give the pot a little stir YOURSELF. But this crap about having to grow a 1000 lb. pumpkin to have an opinion is BS.

oh yea, and BTW....quite a few folks on this site have been gardeners for many years, myself included....let's see, since Boy Scouts, hmmm...27 years or so. That in and of itself, really doesn't mean anything since this is a giant pumpkin related website. It's the guys who have been growing AG's, are helpful in their comments, and genuinely try to help folks, that get respect.

OK Southern, that's fair. In fact it sounds like something I'd say. You're right, words are cheap. So I guess I'll have to put up or shut up this coming season. But on your other comment you're wrong... everything I've posted hasn't been critical. And some of the criticism I actually HAVE made has been FAIR criticism...so give the devil his due.
