Little cross #01 = (1260 x 580 Weir)...580 is the 1260's sister, same seed, reverse cross
Little cross #02 = (572 Andrews x 1260)...= (1260 x sibb X 1260)

What is so interesting about selfing the 1260? 1370 Rose (1260 x 712 Kuhn), 1124 Goetz (1370 Rose x 1260) - doing the backcrosses sounds better here...just MHO.

The 1260 is awesome, in that it tends to go quite heavy. It also grew the 1370 Rose. But that's the only intact(no defects) over 1000 lbs. that I know of. Brett Hester had a damaged one at over 1100. Why do you think there are no other real big ones off the 1260?
It brings to mind the 940 Mombert 98. Geneva Emmons grew a 1262 off it, but that's the only monster off it, as far as I know. Are these seeds less consistant, than the 723, 845, and 846?

the 1260 is a splitter 99% of the time when they get size to them (over 1000 lbs.) the smaller ones hang together. Just another tease pumpkin that grows like crazy, gives you nice dreams and hopes, then splits! jerry rose is the only one who beat the odds.

I think there is only one answer: there have been only very few 1260 seeds in the hands of good growers. Only about 80 seeds were returned to Craig and so he had not many to give out....

PrettyPumpkin,
I didn't know that.
I've been thinking of growing a couple of seeds with the 1260 Weir as a parent, I'm wondering if I should reconsider. Maybe the other parent in the cross will add some split protection.
There were a couple of 1370 Roses, that held together, to break the 1000lb. barrier. Jerry lost a big one though.
I don't know if I'm at the point of growing a 1000 pounder yet, but you never know
So many things to consider(hmmmm).

Yea, it splits!
so, if you don't want your 1260 seeds, I'll take 'em!

A long time ago.....there was a pumpkin called the 825.5 Shymanski. The seeds from this fruit grew a lot of damaged pumpkins,so many that many growers fed the seeds to the birds rather than risk planting them. One day a brave man named Dave grew one and made a good cross that stopped most of the splitting problem. Soon a man named Fred grew one of Dave's seeds. That 846.5 pound pumpkin is now famous. The moral of the story is if the seed grows heavy pumpkins it must be planted because that is how we have came to be right here..on the verge of the 1500 pound marker! One of those 1260 seeds may be that silver bullet or produce the pumpkin that has it.

951 Castillicu ( I have A Hard Time Speeling that name) Or 855 Black. Which would be a better cross with a 1370 Rose.

I would pick 855 Black(1260 Weir X 801.5 Stelts), because it should add better color to the cross. If you are looking for the best size potential of the seeds, or wall thickness, then I don't know.
Just my opinion.

What was the cross for the 855 black?

I'd also choose the 855 Black 03 (1260 X 801.5). Should add thickness and color to the 1370!

Thanks for your input Jerry.
I have seen a few pics of pumpkins grown from the 1370 seed. Impressive color. I may be growing one next year.

The 1370 was a very nice and strong plant . I think it has allot more in it than the numbers it hit this year .Both 1370 pumpkins at Topsfield were very good in color and in shape .I think the 1370 will hit the 1300-1400 in 2005 ,maybe more.If you have them grow em!!
