1st thing you need to do imho is get and read "How to Grow World Class Pumpkins" Vol 1, 2, or 3 - by Don Langevin
This will get you started in the right direction.

Hey Ryan: Welcome to the madness. 2004 was my first year growing a giant. Ended up at 570 lbs. There are many generous growers on this site to get seeds from. Check out Frank Edwards post in this section. He is a fellow michiganian and may be able to hook you up with some local seed stock. You are welcome to my seeds but there are many better seeds to choose from on this site. One suggestion I would make is to check out soil prep section and start doin as much prep for 2005 as you can get done. Good luck in 2005 any if you need any help send me an email.I live in the thumb area. Good Luck: Steve zuhlke2@netzero.net

Hey, another, Michigan grower! Welcome aboard! Up there in Big Rapids you will have to protect your seedlings real well in May. You have temps that are probably 5 degrees colder than down here (Grand Rapids area), which can be a big deal early in the season. I used to think that nothing that far north would amount to much because of the colder temps, but Todd Swartz of Clare broke the Michigan record with a 976 this year and had several other big ones as well. So he or Chad might be able to tell you more about what they did for early season protection. Best of luck, and if you need some seeds let me know.... Frank

Yikes! All you Michigan pumpkin junkies forgot to warn this poor gentleperson about the addictive quality of growing Giant Pumpkins!...BEWARE double H that none of the returned envelopes have attached warnings as they should... GIANT PUMPKIN GROWING IS ADDICTIVE AND MAY BE HABIT FORMING! Adverse effects may include snorting soil to see if it smells "Sweet"..adding fish emulsion till the neighbors two blocks over want ot know whats wrong with your street...moon lit strolls through the patch just "to be sure" everything is alright....You have been warned!!! Now jump in with both feet and enjoy the fun!!Chuck

Ryan, I grew only a 513.7 from the 845 Bobier 00, a 497 from the 869.5 Calai, a 459 from the 790 Daletas, a 595 from the 582 Hester....etc...etc... Quite a waste of good seeds to tell you the truth.
You don't want ME planting any of your seeds!...LMAO!
