I have recieved a few seeds in which the grower did not write the weight on the seed. For my records I went ahead and wrote the weight on the seed - should I not do this? I understand that for my own purpose it is whatever I want to do. But if I am sent 3 or 4 seeds and want to trade one later, will people question their validity?

I am keeping a pretty extensive database so that my seeds are not mixed up.

You're leaving the seeds in the original envelopes right?

After a while you stop opening the seed packs. The most reassuring thing of all is to see that the growers data & seal are original & has never been tampered with at all.

But if you must sneak a peek, a new staple usually holds the envelope together.

Or like you said, if the number you provide the seed is recorded & communicated, I can't see any issue.

When i receive Packs of Seeds i leave them in the original, unopened Seed Packet. What i do though is i write, in red ink on the packet, who the Seeds were from and the date that i received them. I also staple the once open end of the Seed packet to ensure no Seeds escape and get mixed in with any other that may come out of their Seed packets. I also make notes on the printed Communication Emails or Letters that were involved with Seed requests or Deals. Such notes include dates of SABP's mailed out with or without $'s and if $'s were enclosed the amount and type of currency. The description of the seeds: ie.. parentage, quantity in packet, who from, date received, and any information that may track any one single seed to it's original sender and the corespondance between that person and myself. I can then retreive all of the information on the Seeds and how i came about obtaining them for anyone who may ask. I also make other notes on the associated paperwork but they are just reminders as i have very bad short and medium term memory. It may appear that i go over enthuisastic with such notes but these notes can be relayed to anyone who may take a seed over that they may be desperate to get a hold of.

I would rather trade for an opened and inspected seed from someone I trust than an unopened original packet from someone I don't know.......G

hey you

i always open the envelopes to make sure the seed is in good condition. I do either tape or stample shut afterward so I don't loose any.

weigh to go, Tom!
i have checked EVERY seed i have ever received...
and made note of anything out of the ordinary;
is or seems empty, excessively LARGE seed, excessively small seed, exceptionally beautiful seed (yes, they CAN be!), etc.....
and i am exhausted. good night.

I agree some seeds are very beautiful, 823* white, solid yet slender, and perfectly shaped.

the one main thing that amazes me about some seeds, usually the tan ones, is the little bit of golden trim that
is around the edges of them. could be an illusion sometimes,
but like the chrysalis of a Monarch butterfly caterpillar,
it has that "icing on the cake" look about it.
ahhh, seeds.........

I have a real nice seed binder I got for Christmas that I store my seeds, they got it from Lee Valley tools, for all you Canadians (it only operates in Canada). And I always look at my seeds!

I got one of those seed binders from Lee Valley for Christmas last year. My wife was sick of having my seed packs all over the computer desk. I love it!
