Is it best to trim back and tie up your Raspberry plants in the fall or in the spring? Thanks Scott

In order, to have your question answered you need, to tell us what kind, of raspberry plants you have.

I bought the starts at garage sale in 03' and I'm not sure what verity they are. About all I can tell you is they are summer bearing with red berries. I hope this helps.

Red raspberries are more winter hardy than black ones. You will want to remove (cut back) the canes that produced fruit this year in mid October. Don't cut any canes that have not yet bared any berries. If the canes are near the ground and can be covered, it would be best to do so. Some people pinch the second year cane at about 3 feet long in the spring to cause the plant to branch out more. This depends somewhat on the variety though.
