In the summertime, why would very established peach trees, crack open and sap ooze out only to be covered with ants? I was thinking along the lines of disease or critter problems. Any help would be appreciated. Should I cancel purchasing more peach trees? Thanks, Jerry

Sounds to me like you may have missed the first two highly suggested oil sprays. Could the critter be the guy that did not apply the suggested sprays? Today's oils are so much better there may only be one properly timed application.

I used Neem Oil on a warm day two weeks ago. Another should go on just before bud break break in the spring. Then almost weekly fruit tree sprays or after each heavy rain.
The peach the peach they don't come cheap. The tree came with instructions if from a good mailorder firm. They are mostly trouble free but you absolutely must work with them.

Oil Spray late fall early winter.
Oil Spray early spring as the buds start to move.
Fruit Tree Combination Spray
Pink Bud
Peddle Drop
Every ten to fifteen days or after rain.

Look up gummosis of peach. It can be a symptom of many different causes. Examples: wounding or disease.

Jerry,

I never saw this post. Are the peaches cracking & oozing or is it the lower trunk?

I never saw the newer posts myself. It is the trees that are cracking (noticed it in the summer). They are my mother-in-laws trees and I am purchasing a couple dwarf peach trees myself. Thanks for the replies guys. Any help is appreciated. Sorry for delay in getting back to you. My 4x4 is in the garage more than it is out, my mother-in-law is getting operated on, found a water drip of unknown origin in my basement(not near water pipes) and my darling wife was involved in a hit and run accident last week, just leaving her there. The guy did come back, as the ambulance was getting ready to pull out. Sorry for venting.
