What is the best variety of sunflowers to grow for a big head? I planted Mammoth Gray Stripe from a catalog and got heads over 12 inches across. It won the blue ribbon at the fair and it wasn't even the biggest.

melwil, i plant grey stripe, russian giants, and ones called sunzilla. they all grow pretty big heads, i usually take first or second place at our county fair. i'm trying to breed them for height now! i've been having better luck with the grey stripe for that. the sunzilla's are suppose to be able to get a 24" head, i'm not there yet!

Some of my Cravens produced 22" heads. Just another choice.
