I'm looking for mangel seeds for my dad, at least a pound of them.
I found this place: http://www.mainstreetseedandsupply.com/vsbeet.htm
but if anyone knows of a better source, let me know. Looks like there aren't many places out there that carry them.

Do they eat the beet or the leaves, or both?

My dad and I used to grow mangels in the 80s when I still lived in Canada. They are related to sugar beets. We fed them to the goats and cows. I won first place at a fair for largest red beet with one of those (~20 lbs). The next year they changed the category to "red table beets". I think he got the seed from Stokes Seeds in St. Catharines, Ontario.

I think they eat the whole thing Doug. He planted purple top turnips this year, and they seem to love those things.

They are called Mangelwurzels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangelwurzel
Here is one of my plants from last year. http://my.gardenguides.com/photos/sunflower_info/photo/5655/12
I went to buy a bulk packge of the "Mammoth Red Mangel" but most of the online shops were out of stock. That suggest to me that they get them from the same seed source. Anyways, one place that carries them is R.H. Shumway. They also carry Golden Eckendorf Mangel, which I'm growing right now. https://www.rhshumway.com/shumsite/shumsitebrowse.aspx?action=search&searchtext=mangel
