I have been growing cabbages for quite a while,
The biggest Red cabbage I have gotten was 13.3 pounds Weighed at JAred's weigh off in 07. Wasnt important enough to be put on the website. lol
The Green Cabbage I got was 15.something I have set this a couple times,
Does anyone have problems with splitting? I can get the green to 15 and then they seem to split. I relize that some varities split more easily than others LFD seems to split at 13-15lbs for me.
Reds do split but I have slowly finding out how to stop them from splitting.
Need advice for getting Green cabbage past 15 pounds.

Control the moisture...then when they get as big as they can get are close...cut the main root 1/2 to 3/4

I have grown the mega-ton variety and very little splitting and have grown very large ~15 to 20 pound heads. I recommend serious preparation of the soil under the plant since they heavily feed in a very small area.

I have grown great Cabbage, ask longmont pete. Moisture is easy o control in the summer(we dont get any rain) I water 3 times a week. But once late August hits, it gets a little tricky. Too much water it rots not enought it splits. I add manure and other stuff and seem to do well. I control worms and other pests with dust.
Any more advice?

Yes the mega-ton did great here. they say up to 20 pounds and my smallest was 27 pounds. I left 2 there and they got to 35 pounds. Not one of the 8 heads split. They were all in raised beds and OM was high and watered everyday.
