I had to place something around my cherry tree so the cat wouldn't keep scratching it. Will the lack of sunlight to the tree cause any harm. Thanks.

Nope...your tree will be just fine. The bark doesn't require sunlight. Orchards often do what you did to prevent rodents from girdling the bark and killing the tree. The Dark Green may cause to much heat retention.

I found some plastic fencing that I placed around a tree to keep the cat from climbing it and snatching a bird from the nest. You can find it at most hardware stores..Its kind of like a hard plastic. hope this helps. Croley
