My watermelon patch took a dive a few weeks ago, the plants never made it. Now I have this patch of ground getting covered with weeds. What would be a good cover crop for the summer and not too hard to turn in with a small Mantis tiller come late August to plant some turnips and mustard greens??

For your climate I would go with a Legume like a vetch, or Bio Mass peas and winter rye. Buck Wheat...will get you a few 30 day cycles before the growing season winds down down

nothing will "turn in" with the small mantis tiller they simply aren't designed for that purpose,,,just a word of warning to you

Youre right on that Dan the mantis is good but not like a big tiller. Gotta do something, dont need more weed seeds.

Weed wack the growth at the base when the cover crop gets to 6" high, then let dry for 3 days. After that, the mantis tiller's do a good job turning the matter into the soil. I used mine in this manner this year. Mind you, a $30 rental will do it in 1/3rd the time.
