My giant onions this year have huge tops but the bulbs are slow to come. Last year the bulbing was larger but I was fertilizing and they seemed to mature earlier than I wanted. If anyone has suggestions please let me know? John

John, I have never tryed to grow giant onions but have grown some pretty respectiful ones. Last year had some up to 23 inches circ. I like the Candy variety as they stay mild even though they get big. This year they are up to a little better than 18 inches. Have never weighted one. I plant the onions in rows about 4 inches apart and water in furrows along the onions. I thin them out and use them as the season progresses. I have used 16-16-16 in the past. Would throw 2 handful at the top of row weekly and let water carry it down the furrow. This year I started with the above fertilizer and have changed to a fertilizer I make called Little Hawk fertilizer. I grind 2 types of rock together, one a volcanic ash and the other an ancient organic compost. This is used at top of rows, 2 handful a week. Check my GP diary for pictures of my onions.
