I am growing 2 of these this year , a first for me. When the cabbages got to about basketball size, the heads seemed to have gotten really flat. Is this normal for thes to do that ? The plant does not seem to be growing in diameter anymore.

My OS did that last season. You can see them in my diary from last year. The heat down here killed them off pretty quick even with misters running. The largest was over 45lbs. or so and with a flat head like you are seeing.

how much water did you give them? and how did you water them or was it just rain watering? I am hoping for 100lb or so this year

Pirate, I am trying to keep the soil moist under them. If we get a lot of rain I wait a few days to water. I read to keep them moist or the heads could split like a pumpkin from a big rain event if the soil is dry.
Marty, that is good to know. I heard of some flat head varieties , but I didn't know these were. Thanks
