I have a few pie-size pumpkins that appear to be almost ripe. Is it safe to leave them on the vine for 8 weeks until they're needed? I've never had them ripen up this early before.

Pick them now. They might rot if you leave them on the vine that long.

I disagree a pumpkin on the vine last longer than one not on the vine. As long as the plant is healthy. If you do remove it harden them off in the sun, remove to a cool dry area. Wiper them with a bleach and water solution often, space them far enough apart in storage so they do not touch each other

I think if you can keep it in a warm dry area you will be fine. 2 months is a long time.
