I had a friend plant some of our giant sunflower seeds from one that we grew. One of his plants got real tall fast and a lot taller than the other's he grew. But it started to branch out and almost look like it is tasseling, but in about 12 different places, or maybe going to seed. Any idea what this is and why? There is no sign of a head anywhere, the other sunflowers all have a head starting on them.

Some sunflowers grow one large head atop a single stalk. (the variety Russian Mammoth for example does this.) Others varieties branch out and have many flower heads.

I planted both types last year. They cross pollinated and reseeded this year I have tall multi-headed sunflowers. Another one is really tall but has flowers you normally see on a type of sunflower that is 6 inches tall. A bee must have flown in from somewhere else.
