They have been using thiram for a long time to treat seeds. Thiram is also used as a deer repellant, one of the brands of repellant using thiram is called "Chew-Not" The fungicide Captan can also used to treat seeds. I have used the organic product "Root Shield" to prevent damping off when starting seedlings indoors. I think the best organic way to deal with the seed rotting, is to get the seed up and growing quickly. Give it the ideal temperature and moisture conditions. THe longer they are in the soil without germinating the greater the chance for rot.
