Any tips for growing green garlic?

I want to sell some at a farmers market, but not sure how to plant them. Do I plant each clove or the whole bulb together?

Any advice or tips will be appreicated.

Aaron, not sure what green garlic, is...but certainly the bulbs should be divided into cloves b/4 planting, I would think!!! Uh-0h, prbly in trouble again....that's where thinkin gets me!!!! LOL Best of luck!!! Peace, Wayne

Green garlic is young garlic which is harvested before the cloves have begun to mature. The resulting vegetable resembles a scallion, with a deep green stalk and a pale white bulb

When garlic is grown normally, it is harvested when the lower part of the stalk visible above the ground starts to turn brown. The bulb of the garlic has differentiated into garlic cloves, and it is cured so that it will last in storage. Typically, garlic is harvested in the middle of summer. Green garlic, on the other hand, is harvested before the plant is mature. The stalks are still totally green, usually around one foot (30 cm) long, and the bulb resembles that of a green onion, rather than a segmented head of garlic.

No plant it exactly the same just harvest it younger, when the bulb is still like a young inion rather than segmented as a garlic bulb does in maturity

no garlic expert by no means but i recall reading about scapes is this same idea

Don, yes but scapes are only the tops or a portion of the tops, also called spears by some.
Green garlic is (by my understanding) the complete young plant including the bulb.
Green garlic and scapes are much milder in flavor than the traditional cloves.

I thru the scapes in the pumpkin patch(to see if would keep the bugs away) but the following spring had garlic plants popping up everywhere..

Scapes, as I understand it, is the beginning of a seed head...that grows up thru the center of a growing garlic head(bulb), (plant). Suggestions are to pull them or cut them, if you want a fully developed garlic bulb to grow. I have on a regular basis, (every year) pulled or cut scapes, and made a very tasty Garlic Pesto!!!!
