This is only my second season growing onions. I am looking for some advice on preparing the onions for storage and what storage methods others have used, that works.

I was reading in a book to leave the onions on the surface of the garden for a few days, to toughen the onion before storage.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Dry them slightly and braid them like garlic. Then keep them cool dry and dark.

I keep mine in 10 lb. onion sacks and hang them in a dark cool cellar. We harvest aroung 200 lbs. per year. We just opened our last sack from last year. We grow Copra for long term storage and use up the Whites and Reds first. A good website with lot's of info is dixondalefarms.com ,it has info on harvesting and storage.
