I am currently looking for plants that do well in baskets and cascade over the edge. I have about 6 baskets with wave petunias in, with 6 more baskets to fill. I wanted to do some different varieties of flowers that do well in baskets. Question is...What flowers do you like best in baskets?

Calibrochoa are one of my customers favorites along with the waves. Trailing verbena make a nice basket also. If the baskets will be in hot sun than ivy geraniums are best.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the calibrochoa, they look like they would be awesome in a hanging basket. I will also check into the other ones mentioned as well. Thanks for the input!!

Thanks again for all your replies. The hanging basket will have to be put on hold for now, as we just experienced a big wind storm. IT was that strong it picked up our entire greenhouse, frame and all and rolled it across the yard. It even pulled out all 8-12inch spikes I had securing it down and knocked over a 100 gallon propane tank!! All the baskets I had are destroyed and all 12 trays of seedlings are gone. Please excuse me while I go cry in a corner!!

Considering the wind plastic flowers will work just fine.

I know this is an old post, but that time of year will be coming up soon again. I just visited a greenhouse with the most wonderful bouganvelia baskets. When in a basket, the vigorous growth has a tendency to cascade and form quite the show. I do believe they overwinter theirs though, so not sure how much growth you would get if only doing annual baskets.
Sweet potato is another favorite trailer for raised beds and baskets. Ipomoea batata comes in a striking chartreuse as well as a rich purple for long cascades of foliage that work well all year long, despite not being a flower.
