Anyone have an opinion on these? I see folks on youtube who are smarter than me in terms of their grasp on technology. But then those same people plant turnips in their fancy "walipini greenhouse" and I shake my head. Turnips don't need anything that fancy! How silly.

I had to look them up. I had never heard of them, but when I did I realized it was what I would have known as a pit style greenhouse. I am sure they have advantages with all the insulation they provide but I would be concerned that plants would not get much sun in the winter at the floor level. SO it would be somewhat counter productive. Perhaps if you were into growing something that didn't need a ton of sun it would be better. I would also be concerned it would fill up with rainwater and be a swimming pool at times. A better design might be to hybridize it with an above ground type greenhouse the bank up the north wall and maybe even the sides. WIth the objective being to maximize all the winter sun and also utilizing the banks as heat storage reserves, plus getting some protection from the underground warmth too.

I like this one, the guy building it is very thoughtful and you get to hear him think through it's design. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcyejyGiafM&t=991s

This one is different and expensive to build but I love the concept. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD_3_gsgsnk
