I’m trying to grow a state record eggplant this year but could use some advice from someone who has done it before. Any tips on pruning, staking etc. thanks in advance

My son is obsessed with eggplant. I bought some good seeds for him this year. We are currently experimenting with some regular store bought seeds and I can't get then past the dang seed leaves they're just dinky and not progressing any. What is the trick?
