Brooklyn Corner, Nova Scotia

Just thinking out loud here. I can only speak to my small corner of the Universe. Only a few years ago I could pick up a few acres outside Halifax for $20,000-50,000. Seriously, only five years ago I passed on 250 acres, ocean front house included for $220,000. Fast forward, my neighbor sold his one acre property for $656000, even though it was assessed for $270000. There are many, many “ out of towners “ buying up property on a big scale and I don’t think I like it.

There are still some areas in Nova Scotia where you can buy at $1000 an acre but they are disappearing fast. And I’m not telling.

Same here west of Ottawa. Frame older homes in the 250/300k two years ago are now going over 400k. New construction 350/385 three years ago is now near 800k. Just crazy the prices.

Really crazy here too. Small waterfront homes in our area here are over a million now. 2 years ago I could have had a nice 2+ bedroom place on the water for $650,000. We are 1.5 hours from Toronto in a small town. Prices of regular homes here are up by over 30% in 1 year alone.
