Subject:  is it ripe

i have a field of carolina cross,one broke at the stem the other dat i cut it and it was no where near ripe.it weighed 48 pounds,the tendrill was brown and the belly was turning yellowish it was a little mishaped.on the next vine i have one that looks awsome it has almost quit growing it has a40 inch girth and has been 21 inch's long for a couple weeks,it's not getting longer but growing about 1/2 every couple days in girth.it is the same age as the other one and the tendril is brown and turning some what yellpw underneth.when should i cut it boy i would cry if it's not ready any advice

On Carolina Cross melons, you can't go by the brown tendril method or really any other method. I would wait until growth has stopped to be sure. They can be nice and sweet especially the hearts, just don't expect a really bright red flesh when you cut into it.

thanks it has slowed alot in it's growth alot i most definatly want it to be ripe i let you know how it turns out

About 60 days post pollination is pretty safe for assuring a ripe melon. But they are capable of growing for 100 days or more if you keep everything healthy.Of course a 100 day melon is over ripe.
