I have a nice pumpkin growing and have been tracking it's growth on a daily basis. I was up to gaining 10 lbs a day until today when it dropped down to 7 lbs. There has been no significant change in the weather but I did heavily water yesterday. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I would really like to grow a 1000 lb pumpkin but it aint going to happen at 7 lbs a day.

1,000 pounds probably won't happen at 10 pounds per day either. How many days old is your pumpkin? Is your pumpkin difficult to measure due to positioning or odd shape? If you're gonna hit 1,000, at some point you should see gains of 20 to 30 pounds per day for a few days, maybe even a couple weeks. Exceptions do exsist though. Are you fertilizing any?
After a good watering in my patch, I typically see an increase (above the average gains) two days later.

If you haven't already, now would be a good time to perform a vine inspection, you could have a vine borer.....

Growth rate will ebb and flow if you are measuring every day. 10 day growth rate is more reliable, unless of course your pumpkin just stops growing.
