I had my first female flower open last week but I have no males that are open yet. I have three more females that will probably open in the next week. Anyone have any suggestions? I purchased some tiger bloom yesterday so we will see what happens. My friend suggested finding someone around me that has males that they would be willing to donate. I just signed up on this site today so I'm not sure how to go about that. Is there a classifies section? I will keep looking too.

Go to grower diaries, scroll down and look up other people in Washington. CLick on diary and then the envelope on the top left to get their email.

Or, someone from close by will hopefully see this.

To get a pumpkin for this year any C Maxima pollen will do...winter squash..someone has to have one growing near you...Pollination only affects next years offspring

I would try Joel Holland, Ron Barker or some other growers in your area.

Short on males, but maybe there are some occasional ones, but maybe not on the day of pollination? What I would do in this case is the following: About 3 or 4 days before THE ONE (female) opens check the plant for males which might open the next morning. Cut them, put them in a jar with some water, put them on the window sill (away from insects) and wait for them to open somewhen early in the next morning...and then put the jar with the male flowers in the fridge. Within 3 or 4 days you could have some males in your fridge ready to use on demand on pollination day. (You can keep males in the fridge for a couple of days.) Anyway, if you just want to grow a pumpkin and don´t care about the seeds, just use pollen from any C.maxima species and leave the female flower open for insects to bring along some more pollen from the whole neighborhood (BUT DON´T SHARE THOSE SEEDS WITH FRIENDS!...only with enemies.)
