96 cents a bag. $27 dollars a yard....Is there anything wrong with using them to add as compost to my patch? Thanks!

It's steer manure blend, is what is says on the bag. If that matters to help answer my question.

They are normally high in salts if obtained from a feed lot

OK I'll stay away from bags of steer. My local nursery sells mushroom compost. What is the good and bad of that?

A lot of growers use it.Ive heard its low in nutrients cause the shrooms are heavy feeders. So it would be a great soil tilth improver with low-med fertilizer effect.

Thanks! That is good info cojoe. Since you mentioned soil tilth improver.... are grass clippings any good for tilth improvement?

How long will the weed killer stay in the grass clippings?
If I add grass clippings from summer mowing into my patch
in the fall would the weed killer still effect the pumpkin
plant in the spring?

I use mushroom soil every year. It typically has a pH of 7.5 tho so you need to keep an eye on that after 2 or 3 years of it. It is an excellent amendment.
