First year grower. I have a deep rib with scored line in the center of the rib, not leaking any fluids. In your experience will this turn into a split? Any possible interventions? Harvest early? Pic on diary page. Thanks

Yeah I have the same thing on 2 of my pumpkins, with one having 2 ribs that are starting to collapse in on each other and the other one has to ribs that are growing out and making a big crease between them.
sorry I can't help cause I'm a first time grower myself but figured I would throw it out in case this gets answered by some one who knows what they are talking about

bearflag should not be a problem. when the skin pinches together, its no where near as bad as when you have a deep rib intersected with a indentation(dill ring) running around that area in an opposite direction.thats when a blowout (or pin hole)can occur. i would not worry about yours. full steam ahead. pap

if it's possible could some one post a pick of a dill ring (it doesn't sound right asking to see a dill ring) or some blow outs and what to look out for.
Thanks for any pics in advance

Brosco, I will have pictures in my diary in the next day or two of exactly the thing that pap is talking about. It is a very small opening to the naked eye, but the hole goes all the way in. My dill ring is a minor one, but it intersected with a deep rib and it was curtains for that pumpkin.

Brosco, you can also site search for "sag line", and then you can find pictures like the one here:

This one gives you a nice impression what a "Dill ring" is and where the holes could develop.

...btw, Brosco, a bottle of beer isn´t essential for a sag line and some pin holes to develop, but you may want to leave some empty beer bottles behind on the patch after you discovered such features on your pumpkin.

Ha Ha it is funny cause it's true.
Those pics make me want to throw up. Are there ways to prevent this stuff from happening and is this a genetic flaw or some other reason for them.
Thanks for the pics
